They are friends and roommates for crying out loud. When I was a kid, my mom had male friends who lived together. I just thought they were friends. It wasn't until I was in high school that I realized they had been gay. It didn't matter. They were nice people who just happened to live together.
I don't think we have to have muppets get married to teach tolerance. Parents need to do that at home - lets leave the ABC's and 123's to Sesame Street (although only as a backup to what mom and dad are already doing!)

I believe children shouldn't be "protected" from everything. Lay down the facts from early on and teach them tolerance and understanding. What you teach your children, is what they will project later on in life. If you discriminate at home or hide them from certain issues, where/from whom will they learn from? I think of Bert and Ernie as friends, are they gay? Meh, who cares, I'll still LOVE THEM.

I think it's important to show that two men or women who are adults can just be room mates. We don't all need to be paired off to mean something. That said it would be nice to see a gay couple on the street (humans, not muppets) If they still have families on that show, it's been awhile. lol

I think this would be an awesome way for kids to learn a bit more about acceptance..i see far too much around here of kids making fun of "gay" people...wether they know what the word means or not...but can you imagine the parent's uproar over this?? Is it worth PBS's time to deal with all the hate mail coming from it? I would say yes marry them!!

I know there have been jokes about Bert & Ernie being gay for ages. Due to their bickering, I just assumed as a child that they were siblings.
On the one hand, if they did get married, it would be an awesome step in the right direction, teaching kids about different kinds of relationships & families.
On the other hand, why can't they just be roommates? Why would two people of the same gender sharing an apartment have to be gay? And even if they were, they wouldn't necessarily be in a relationship with each other...
(okay, maybe i've analyzed this too much)
If I had to choose just one, I'd say marry them already. ;0)
