Well my little girl is finally here. We welcomed baby Clare into the world on Aug. 9th. I was hoping to have a vbac but things didn't go as planned and ended up with another c-section but we are all doing well! She was 8 days early and we were so not ready!! Our little guy was 13 days late so we thought for sure we had lot's of time! Well my water broke at 3 am 9 days before my due date. It took my a bit too believe that that was actually what was happening. We hadn't even got the hospital bags packed or anything, so it was a scramble that next morning. I had to be induced within 24 hours if labour had not started so that's what happened. Plan was to get an epidural as soon as the contractions really got started and as I requested one they inform me he just went into a surgery so it took an hour! (They were supposed to tell me if he was going in and they didn't!). They guy was a bit of a quack, kinda like a character out of a movie. He had a horrible time getting the epidural into my spine all the while making comments like i'm sorry i'm not doing this on purpose I really do like you etc. and meanwhile hitting my nerves in my spine causing more pain than the nice contractions I was having! I don't know how many times he drilled into my back, but my husband and midwife were starting to get peakish and the look on their faces i'll never forget, can only imagine the look on mine! I'm so polite though and didn't say a word to him although I felt like screaming many obscenities and asking for someone else (although there wasn't anyone else). He was getting so frustrated that he said he needed a break to regroup and he'd come back after he saw someone else and then try again. I was devastated! My contractions were horrible at this point of 4 or more hours on pitocin with back labour too. He did come back and tried again and after a few attempts got it in. I was reassured it would work and it would just take a few minutes. To my horror nothing, absolutely nothing but stronger contractions! I was soo done! When the midwife checked me I had progressed to a big whole 3 cm, basically 1 cm in 4 hours. I was like i'm done, knock me out! So I was put under a general anesthetic and had the c-section. She was upside down so she was most likely not coming out so it was a good thing. Just hard not to see your baby for 2 hours after giving birth and being pumped full of morphine. My midwife said the first thing I said was skin to skin...I was wanting someone to have skin to skin with our new little baby so she went and told my husband my wishes. They took photos and videotaped it for me. I guess when she got onto my husband she did what a newborn does and rooted and found his nipple and latched on! He jumped with surprise! It was caught on video too which is great!

It is hard when we don't have the kind of labour we want - I had issues with hospital staff during my daughter's birth. Well mostly because medical help was absent! ha, should have had a midwife.
Well your daughter is precious. Hope month 1 has been going well!
Congratulations Laura! So sorry to hear about the awful epidural story, I can't even imagine what I would have done in that situation, but it may have sounded something like "Is this your first day?" or something to that effect!!
Hope all is going well with the family!
Congrats on the birth of your daughter.
I couldn't imagine what you went through. I probably would have punched the guy in the face. (Can you tell I don't like pain.)
Well at least your husband got a taste of what we go through with breastfeeding...LOL
Thanks for sharing Laura!
I can' believe the epidural situation. You poor thing. I hope you can soon FORGET about that terrible incident.
Very cute about Clare rooting when your hubby was holding her. That's very special.
I hope you are recovering well and that your family is doing great! Keep up posted on everything Clare!
So sorry to hear that epidural did not work out at the very beginning! Your experience was just like my girl friend! She needed to induce labour and the doctor at night (not her O.B.) said if her water did not break, nothing is going to happen and just went ahead and broker her water. She felt pain and wanted epidural and was told that guy was in an operation. Waited for an hour and finally he came and had the epidural but it only works on half of her body!
I tried skin toskin too and the moment that we saw our baby latched on, life is so amazing!
Once again, congratulations!
