I have spent 37 months of my life so far breastfeeding...and my youngest is only four months old so I'm not done yet. Needless to say breastfeeding has changed my life. I am a lucky lady in that breastfeeding has always been very easy for my babies and I. Here's a few ways in which breastfeeding has changed my life...ironically it is almost exactly 6 years and one week since I started breastfeeding.
Human Pacifier = If all else fails stick a boob in their mouth, words to live by and trust me I do.  My babies and I are such a great team that they aren't big on anything else, I get to be their own personal dairy bar and pacifier. Don't get me wrong I love the bonding time with my babies, it amazes me that I can grow and sustain a human for 9 months in me and 6 months out of me, I love the drunk milk face and the sigh of contentment but it sure makes it tough to do anything without baby in tow, like work on a little website called WeeWelcome.ca or have a dinner out with friends. Just put breastmilk in a bottle you say, I'm all for that, and I even have THE breast pump by Medela - The Freestyle, but can someone please explain it to my baby, she is not a fan of anything but mum! Although we did make some progress this week skipping the bottle altogether and going straight to the Playtex first sippy cup and at least she took a little bit.
Business Mission = Wee Welcome (click here to read all about my Wee Story) is all about having a baby and a life and with that you can find thousands of baby welcome locations across Canada and beyond right here on our website. All of these locations offer a place to change your baby and welcome nursing moms. It is my mission to get nursing moms out of the bathroom stall and into the world.
Fashion Fix = I have actually had to leave a party and go into a bathroom to nurse not because I wanted privacy or because my baby was too distracted but because I forgot that the dress I was wearing although super cute does not allow any access to the boobs other than lifting the whole thing up from the bottom...and it just wasn't that kinda party. I now own clothing with holes in the front for quick access, and thanks to companies like BumbleWee they look cute too. If you had asked me if six years ago if I would be caught dead in nursing clothes I would have laughed at you, ah how times change.
Over the shoulder boulder holders = The girls have never looked better, enjoy it! Nursing bras are getting cuter too, Bravado Designs is my fav and they come up with fantastic new designs all the time. A good bra is a must to show off probably the best cleavage of your life! Easy access makes nursing on the go so much easier.Â
One woman show = I love breastfeeding but it is a really tough and tiring job to be a one woman show and your child's main food source. Taking good care of yourself is the best way to take care of your baby. If you need help ask for it. If you need a break, take it. Eating well can make a huge difference to how you feel, Lianne Phillipson-Webb founder of Sprout Right nutrition has great advice on eating well for nursing moms.
Breastfeeding is amazing and I strongly believe if you can you should but I also strongly believe that there is nothing shameful in feeding your baby formula. Every mom I've ever met, just wants to have a happy healthy baby.Â
