Over Thanksgiving our family had several conversations about what we are each thankful for. My kids are thankful for the food we give them, their friends, and our family. These are all good things but every year we also talk about how they can give back. Here are five ways that you too can get your kids interested in giving back.

1. Donate Clothes and Toys -

Before the holidays every year our family all go through our stuff and donate clothes and toys to a local charity. This is a great way to start giving back as a family.

2. Host a Charitable Birthday -

Our kids, like most, enjoy receiving birthday gifts but between family and friends it's a lot of stuff. There are several ways of hosting a charitable birthday party. You can donate the gifts received or you can send guests a link to donate to a charity instead of bringing a gift.

3. Get Involved -

There are many local events that are organized to raise money for local charities. This is a great way to show kids how they can get involved and have fun as a family. Join us at the Erin MIlls Town Centre on October 13-14 from 11am to 4pm for the re-opening of centre court. Proceeds support the Fresh Produce Box Program at Eden Food for Change.

4. Help A Neighbour -

Giving back doen't need to be complicated, it can be as simple as helping a neighbour. Kids can rake leaves, bake cookies, shovel driveways and even offer to be help out with younger children.

5. Spread Holiday Cheer -

Many organizations can connect your family with a family in need. It is a very special experience to spread holiday cheer. It helps kids to enjoy giving even more than receiving.
